Study of Innovative Applications of Rfid Technology: Methodological Framework

The Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) represents an instrument of support for the automation of the processes and the improvement of the operating management of a system, being the missing link between the material flow and the information flow. RFID technology is used in a great number of possible applications, like product tracking, animal identification, inventory systems and others. Moreover, in recent years, an inconsistent increase of such types of applications has been observed, due to the different information available on such technology and to the lack of a support methodology for this technology in the project management. For these reasons, many projects fail or have not been implemented. The present paper (born from the authors’ experience on the field) introduces a new methodological framework in order to face the feasibility study for the application of the RFID technology, illustrating two pilot cases that today have exceeded the experimentation phase.
